Sally Jean Wessel Leon-Guerrero
3 March 1933 - 17 June 2005
Sally Jean Wessel was born in Grand Island Nebraska during the great depression. One of eight children born to William C. Wessel, Sr. a first generation German-American railway mail clerk and Etta Marie Withrow, a seamstress of Scotch-Dutch-Irish descent. She grew up in St. Joseph, Missouri. She married Justo Torre Leon-Guerrero in 1955 and raised five children while traveling the world as a military wife. Sally was a very proud American and no matter where she was living flew the American flag on Flag day and Independence Day. While living in England in 1957, she wrote a letter to the Honorable W.R. Hull, the Congressman from the 6th District in Missouri about the manner in which the American flag was being handled at certain resort camps in England. She received a reply in July and the situation was remedied. Unfortunately she would not live to learn that she was the descendant of Capt. William Neill (A081824) and eligible for membership in the NSDAR. This would have made her very happy. Her daughter, Jillette Leon-Guerrero became a Charter member of the Mariana Islands Chapter in honor of her mother and continues to make yearly donations in her honor.
